Princes Risborough Lawn Tennis Club

The Club
Princes Risborough Tennis Club was formed in the mid 1920’s and has a long reputation for its friendly welcome to players of all standards, ages and abilities. The Club has Men’s, Ladies and Mixed teams playing in the Bucks Shield and other Leagues, and we have enjoyed some excellent results over the past few years. We also sponsor Junior events and Youth tennis, and have cooperative programmes with local schools.

The club owns its own grounds and has three artificial clay courts, all with floodlights for year round usage. A general programme of development and improvement is maintained by an active committee. The clubhouse is used extensively during the club sessions and matches. A table tennis table provides alternative entertainment during the peak times or rain showers. The club has a ball machine for members use.

Action Plan
The club maintains an Action Plan detailing the current priorities for the club. This is reviewed at each committee meeting and updated annually, following the Annual General Meeting. Click here for the current version of the Action Plan.

Club Sessions
Our Club Sessions are our main social tennis play in the club.  They take place at the following times, and they all run through the summer and winter seasons:

Monday         1:30pm to 4:00pm         Men's Play
Tuesday        1:30pm to 4:30pm         Ladies Play
Wednesday   6:30pm to 9:30pm         Adult Club Night
Thursday       9:30am to 12:30pm       Veterans Play
Friday           9:30am to 12:00pm       Ladies Play
Sunday         10:00am to 12:30pm      Adult Club Morning

The committee and our coaching team encourage members of all abilities to attend these sessions and wish all to feel included and enjoy these sessions to the full.
Those playing should be mindful of those waiting to play and organise short sets; either first to four with long deuces or first to five with short deuces. Short deuce is best of three points once deuce has been reached.
During Club Sessions all players must mix in, change fours and include everyone who wants to play.

The club has a major coaching programme to encourage Juniors and Teenagers. We provide coaching during the summer term and by invitation during the autumn and spring terms. The coach also runs separate courses during the school holidays. A number of our members are qualified to coach juniors and we welcome children of all ages from three years. Junior coaching times shown are for term times only. Coaching times during school holidays will vary. Our coach also provides individual and group coaching for members of all standards.

Social Events and Tournaments
We host an Open Day in the spring where members, friends and visitors are invited to visit the club and enjoy the atmosphere, and our equipment supplier displays the newest and best equipment at discounted prices. The Annual Club Tournament is usually held in the summer months and is open to all members. The event culminates in a Club Finals Day, usually in September, combining serious tennis with a BBQ for players and spectators. Other one-day tournaments are held throughout the year designed for members to play and enjoy tennis but with a competitive edge. The Mr & Mrs Competition ends the season on a lighter note. Tournaments are also arranged for Junior members in different age groups. The over 50’s Veterans hold regular, very sociable, Thursday morning sessions. The Club offers Wimbledon tickets to British Tennis members through the Club Annual Wimbledon Draw and also runs fundraising events.
