Welcome to Princes Risborough Lawn Tennis Club (PRLTC)

Come to our Open Day!

On Saturday April 27 from 1pm to 5pm we have “open house” to welcome all local residents to come and see what a great club we are.

If you’re already a tennis player then our members will be on the courts to knock some balls around with you and talk about what we can offer. We have a wide range of club sessions catering for experienced players, social players and newbies.

We also run “Rusty Racquets” sessions for those who have not played for a long time (or never) where our club coach Mel Burn will guide you and help you to get your strokes going in a fun and easygoing manner with a group of other learners. Come to the Open Day and meet Mel who will explain how  it works. She can also do private lessons if you need some one-to-one time.

A local specialist sports shop (Sportscene) will bring a wide range of tennis gear on sale at discounted prices. You can try playing with a variety of their test racquets so you can choose the one that works best for you.

So if you have been thinking of trying tennis, come along – we can even lend you a racket. We’re a very friendly, inclusive club and we would love you to come and try us.

Clubhouse Refurbishment

The final stage of our clubhouse refurbishment is now nearly complete. The glass doors have been changed and the new floor laid. The only remaining work is to build an access ramp and redo the patio.

Quorn Family Tennis Cup

Saturday 27th April 11am – 1pm
It’s that time of year again, where you can get your whole family involved in some mini red ball tennis competition at PRLTC
The Quorn Family Tennis Cup is open to any combination of family members… the only catch is, one player from each doubles pair has to be under 10 and the other, over 18! All pairs must play with mini red balls and 21″ or 23″ rackets.
The winning pair overall, will earn an invite  to attend one of the LTA staged grass court events this summer and play in a Red Ball Festival Day!! They’ll also get to see some professional
tennis competition!

Forthcoming Events

Ladies’ Success

Congratulations to the ladies who conquered the winter elements and accrued a lot of Oxfordshire miles travelling to away matches to secure promotion to Division 3 in the Babolat Oxfordshire League.  8 wins, 2 ties and only 1 loss meant we finished 3rd in the league, ahead of Haddenham by only one point .... proving every set is worth fighting for! Thank you and a big well done to all the Weekend Warriors who donned multiple layers, hats and body warmers this season and let’s continue the winning ways next winter. Jo Walkley Ladies 2 team captain

League Promotion

Congratulations to our Men’s Oxfordshire League team, who have secured promotion for the second year running!Having won Division 4 last winter, the team were keen to see how they would do in Division 3... and the answer was “very well indeed”... finishing 2nd with 6 wins, 3 draws and just 1 defeat.Well done to the core squad of Stu Lindsay, Sam Hussey, Chris McDonald, Ryan Romano and Jack Long (plus those who played the occasional match) and good luck for next winter in the heady heights of Division 2.Stephen Biggs, PRLTC Men’s Captain.

Mr & Mrs

Mr & Mrs Competition (Saturday 13th October 2018) must have been held on the most windy day of the year. Storm Callum was whistling around the locality, but didn't put off the couples who entered.  5 pairs played in a round robin format winning a set or playing for a max of 30 mins.  It was great to see how footwork improved in such weather conditioning as at times nobody knew where the ball was going, but 2 couples - Roz & Bob, Tracy & Michael overcame all these elements to reach the competition final.  What a final.....it was nail biting stuff, being 4-2 up Roz & Bob seemed to have it in the bag but before we knew it, it was 4 games all..... but it was Tracy and Michael who took their chance and wrapped up the next 2 games to claim themselves as Champions. Thanks to all the players, whose loving partnerships are still intact ....(i think!).  Jenny Thrower / Richard Thomas, Chris & Steve Campling, Tracy Brockbank & Michael Sullivan, Roz & Bob Pringle, Lee Mowle & Charles Vint.  Also thanks to my lovely hubby, Andy Burn who on the day had to pull out to a niggly knee, but stayed and assisted throughout the whole afternoon.

Local Derby

An enthusiastic team of players from Princes Risborough and Horsenden Clubs (4 men and 4 ladies each) played in the 19th friendly meet. In brilliant sunshine the teams fought it out through the afternoon. With mens,  ladies and mixed doubles being played , and after 15 matches the scores revealed Horsenden remained triumphant. Thanks to Phil Langley, Mick White, Leo Newell, Adam Cayley, Julie Reid, Jenny Thrower, Di Wright , and Susan Shepherd for taking part and representing our club. Thanks to all players from Risborough and Horsenden, including team captain Peter Messenger for making it a fun, enjoyable afternoon. We look forward to next year’s rematch to bring the trophy home (and another nice piccie)!

Jamison Cup

A super sunny Saturday kicked off the Jamison Cup with 20 members participating in our annual social mixed doubles members tournament. 2 groups of 5 pairs played in a round robin format.  This was repeated again with the ladies switching male partners, so all ladies played with all 10 men. Congratulations to the winners - Hazel Brownlee and Martin Pringle. Click the photo for the full story !

Finals Day Winners

We had a wonderful Club Finals’ Day on 13 September – the weather held fair all day, there were some splendid matches and equally splendid cakes. There was over 50 people in attendance by the time the last match of the day (the mixed doubles) was concluded. Congratulations are due to all participants and to all entrants to a fantastic competitive programme held over 4 months. Well done to Mel for organising and to all the umpires who assisted on the day. Click on the photo for the full results!
