Welcome to Princes Risborough Lawn Tennis Club (PRLTC)

We are a thriving, friendly club, based in the centre of town; we have three artificial clay courts and a newly refurbished clubhouse. We welcome players of all standards and offer a broad range of playing opportunities. Whether you are a junior looking to take part in our extensive coaching programme, someone returning to the sport and interested in the ‘rusty racquets’ sessions, or an experienced league player we will have something for you. We run weekly club sessions, enter men’s ladies’ and mixed teams in local leagues and run fun and friendly competitive one day tournaments a couple of times a year. Members are able to organise their own social tennis sessions too.

If you are interested in joining our club or are an existing member looking for information, please do take a look around the site to find out more about all that we have to offer.

Road to Wimbledon

The boys Road to Wimbledon competition was played on Friday 31st May. Seven eligible contenders took part in a round robin singles timed tournament. Matches got off to a good start but a few lessons were learnt from playing …one, listen to your parents advice …don’t leave tennis balls lying around the baseline , you may have an accident ….and only 5 mins later a sprained ankle , and one retired competitor . Our next casualty pulled a calf muscle , with 2 retired players only 5 remained . Close matches and great rallies and all being played in a good spirit. The top 2 players in the round robin played in the boy’s final . This was between Nick Beale and John MacGregor. A set to decide the winner and after some excellent rallies and points , Nick came out victorious beating his best mate John 6-2. Nick will now represent Risborough tennis club at the County Finals being played at the Bucks Indoor centre w/e 13/14th July . […]

A Mixed Winter

Our mixed 1st team, currently in the ADL Division 2 finished 4th overall on 12 points, behind Halton 2, Haddenham 1, and Tring 2 after 12 matches.  A blip at the beginning of the first half put us near the bottom of the league but we had some great come backs and wins in the last few matches putting us in a good position to stay in Division for another year. Another successful winter league staying in this division which is both challenging but enjoyable too. We won 45 sets and lost 44 sets! Thanks to all the team players -  Anthony, SBK, Stephen, Salim, Andy Grant, Russell, Jack, Sam, Michael, Martha, Tracy, Sophie, Sarah, Lee and myself.

Ladies’ Success

Congratulations to the ladies who conquered the winter elements and accrued a lot of Oxfordshire miles travelling to away matches to secure promotion to Division 3 in the Babolat Oxfordshire League.  8 wins, 2 ties and only 1 loss meant we finished 3rd in the league, ahead of Haddenham by only one point .... proving every set is worth fighting for! Thank you and a big well done to all the Weekend Warriors who donned multiple layers, hats and body warmers this season and let’s continue the winning ways next winter. Jo Walkley Ladies 2 team captain

League Promotion

Congratulations to our Men’s Oxfordshire League team, who have secured promotion for the second year running!Having won Division 4 last winter, the team were keen to see how they would do in Division 3... and the answer was “very well indeed”... finishing 2nd with 6 wins, 3 draws and just 1 defeat.Well done to the core squad of Stu Lindsay, Sam Hussey, Chris McDonald, Ryan Romano and Jack Long (plus those who played the occasional match) and good luck for next winter in the heady heights of Division 2.Stephen Biggs, PRLTC Men’s Captain.

Mr & Mrs

Mr & Mrs Competition (Saturday 13th October 2018) must have been held on the most windy day of the year. Storm Callum was whistling around the locality, but didn't put off the couples who entered.  5 pairs played in a round robin format winning a set or playing for a max of 30 mins.  It was great to see how footwork improved in such weather conditioning as at times nobody knew where the ball was going, but 2 couples - Roz & Bob, Tracy & Michael overcame all these elements to reach the competition final.  What a final.....it was nail biting stuff, being 4-2 up Roz & Bob seemed to have it in the bag but before we knew it, it was 4 games all..... but it was Tracy and Michael who took their chance and wrapped up the next 2 games to claim themselves as Champions. Thanks to all the players, whose loving partnerships are still intact ....(i think!).  Jenny Thrower / Richard Thomas, Chris & Steve Campling, Tracy Brockbank & Michael Sullivan, Roz & Bob Pringle, Lee Mowle & Charles Vint.  Also thanks to my lovely hubby, Andy Burn who on the day had to pull out to a niggly knee, but stayed and assisted throughout the whole afternoon.

Local Derby

An enthusiastic team of players from Princes Risborough and Horsenden Clubs (4 men and 4 ladies each) played in the 19th friendly meet. In brilliant sunshine the teams fought it out through the afternoon. With mens,  ladies and mixed doubles being played , and after 15 matches the scores revealed Horsenden remained triumphant. Thanks to Phil Langley, Mick White, Leo Newell, Adam Cayley, Julie Reid, Jenny Thrower, Di Wright , and Susan Shepherd for taking part and representing our club. Thanks to all players from Risborough and Horsenden, including team captain Peter Messenger for making it a fun, enjoyable afternoon. We look forward to next year’s rematch to bring the trophy home (and another nice piccie)!
