Thanks to everyone for making this tournament fun and enjoyable and easy to supervise! No rain as forecast so all matches played on what was a very lovely Thursday May Day School half term afternoon. The semi finalists John, Henry, Jack and Nick played 15 minutes timed matches to see who would get into the final to represent the club. The finalists John and Nick who know each other inside out battled it out in a fixed 20 minute match with Nick beating his tennis buddy on this occasion. Well played everyone. Nick will now represent the club at the county finals to be held at Great Missenden LTC (I believe )this year in July. Mel
On Sunday May 13 we held the first of the season's mixed social tournaments "The Kennedy Cup" . The weather was lovely, we had a massive turnout (28 players) and some cracking tennis. Inbetween matches we enjoyed a fantastic spread, from sandwiches , savouries, strawberries/fruit to a superb selection of homemade cakes - Mary Berry would have been proud. Congratulations to the winners - Gail and Martin. Thanks to all those for making it another enjoyable club event. Thanks to Steve Bailey-Kennedy for presenting the Cup and for his mum - Renee for donating prizes to the winners/runners up. Renee at 91, was unable to attend and present to the finalists ,but we look forward to seeing her next year.
Each year we have a couple of friendly matches with our neighbours at Horsenden Tennis Club (on the other side of the tracks). These are friendly matches for those who do not play in the more serious league teams. Recently we have been winning but Horsenden stormed back in the latest match on May 6 and gave us a good thumping. However an excellent time was had by all and the players commented on how much they had enjoyed it. The return leg will be in September.
We held the AGM on Tues April 24th, 31 people came, wine was drunk and good humour dispensed. The Chairman had to phone in his report from his sickbed, but I am pleased to report that following a small operation he is now recovering well. The minutes and all the reports from the committee are on the Club Sessions page.
PRLTC hosted a Quorn/LTA fun family tournament on Saturday 21st April prior to the open day proceedings. This tournament is a family competition open to players 10 and under partnering a member of their family from parent /grandparent / aunt, uncle etc. We had 10 pairs entered with children from 5 years of age to 9 years . Two round robin groups of 5 pairs kicked of the days proceedings. With 4 matches being played at the same time on mini red courts , mini red balls, max 23 inch junior rackets on a timed format, the competition began. After this was completed , the top 5 pairs where put in the same box with a consolation box for the other 5 pairs. The weather was hot, players were getting tied , the competitive edge was coming through, but at the end of the competition the 2018 PRLTC / QUORN Tournament winners were members father and son Gus and Daniel Mcclarty . Runner Up members Phil and Zack Langley.
Thanks to all involved in our friendly orange ball competition against Prestwood - our first ever friendly against Prestwood. The match was a round-robin format of 8 minute matches being played on all 3 courts. There were some superb rallies and it was great to see proper serves, ground strokes and volleys. Thank you to Gus and Phil - for umpiring very much appreciated. At the end of the day I am pleased to say we won 15 matches to 6 matches. Mel
